I gotta say Federal had some big cajones to advertise "MORE AND MORE KEY TARGET CITIES ARE INSTALLING THUNDERBOLTS" If i were to see my city purchasing a thunderbolt i guess a siren really isn't going to help, since "key Targets" usually have a few 25+ Megaton or more Warheads dedicated to vaporizing every living thing for 70 miles or so around these target cities and if your not wearing SP 100,000 sunblock the siren is the last thing your going to hear. I give Federal credit for employing excellent selling techniques such as "FULLY APPROVED BY THE FCDA FOR MATCHING FUNDS" The 50/50 incentive (great as i am writing this the same siren in this ad is blaring over at the local firehouse) put alot of important equipment into Civil Defense programs and even today when i see certain items of the 1950-70 period of civil defense will have a FCDA program decal adhered to it, The other selling point is "KEY TARGET CITIES" That's the scare technique and that worked because these sirens are everywhere and Federal Enterprises is now called Federal Signal and still is selling emergency equipment like Sirens and Lights and other related equipment, The siren is an Excellent Air Raid siren and can be found on you tube if you never saw or heard one there are plenty of collectors and they restore and sound them, Another place to learn more about Air Raid sirens is civildefensemuseum.com Eric Greens Excellent web site on EVERYTHING civil defense the man knows his stuff and loves to buy and restore sirens so check it out, Myself i got one that sounds a few times every day over at the local Fire Department and from what i can tell is that its a "THUNDERBOLT" or a good copy of one and its in good shape because it screams when sounded and rotates perfect. I am glad these sirens were never needed to let me know i need to take shelter and a Nuclear Attack was in progress well at least not yet........ |
