1957 EVACUATION VIA THE LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY...IMAGINE!

NEWSDAY SEPTEMBER 1 1957, SPECIAL EDITION SUFFOLK
THIS VERY WELL COULD OF BEEN, KNOWING THE EXTENT OF IMPORTANCE LONG ISLAND WAS DURING THE COLD WAR AND THE PROXIMITY TO NYC AND HIGH VALUE TARGETS.ONCE UPON A TIME THE NEW YORK / LONG ISLAND AREA WAS PROBABLY THE BIGGEST MANUFACTURING ZONE IN THE UNITED STATES MAKING JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING ,IT HAD PORTS ALONG THE BROOKLYN QUEENS WATERFRONT AND ITS AIRPORTS HANDLED LARGE AMOUNTS OF CARGO, THERE WAS EVEN A THRIVING RAIL FREIGHT SYSTEM IN PLACE, THESE THINGS NO LONGER EXIST AND MOST OF IT WAS ABANDONED AND RAZED AND MALLS FILLED WITH CRAP IMPORTED FROM CHINA STAND IN THEIR PLACE.
